Logging in
I try to log in, but it keeps coming back to the login page. What's wrong?
This problem is generally caused by privacy settings in your browser that block our site from setting cookies. Without the cookies, our site can't tell whether you've logged in successfully or not. The best solution is usually just to enable cookies for our site.
I just signed up. Why does it say "Username not found" when I try to log in?
Be sure you're using your e-mail address to sign in.

Cookies
What is a cookie and why do I need it?
A cookie is a small file downloaded to your computer from our web site. The cookies we use contain only a unique code that identifies you to our servers so that we don't have to ask you repeatedly to log in.
You can adjust the way your browser handles cookies to protect your privacy while allowing access to services from sites that you trust.
If you reject all cookies, you will not be able to use the customized features and services on our site. You will need to set your browser either to allow all cookies, or at least to allow cookies only from waltontribune.com.
What do you do with cookies?
We use cookies on our site for only two purposes: to note whether you prefer to remain logged-in between sessions and to note when you most recently logged in. These two cookies are all we need to avoid asking you to log in any more than is necessary to maintain the security of your account.
Cookies from other companies
Please note that we partner with other sites to provide some of our content, including weather, AP Wire news, and TV listings. These sites are not operated by The Walton Tribune, and they may set cookies on your computer that we ourselves do not use. The use of cookies by these third-party companies is subject to their own privacy policies, not ours.

Passwords
What if I forget my password?
You can get a temporary password using our Password Reset form. You will need access to the e-mail account you provided during registration. When you submit the form, you'll receive an e-mail with further instructions. You then can log in with your temporary password and change your password to something you can more easily remember.

What if my e-mail address has changed?
If your e-mail address changes before you can update your profile, you will not be able to receive the password reset e-mails. We can help you update your profile if you write to us with your full name, previous e-mail address, and registered ZIP code. Be sure to give us with the same information you provided when you registered.

Why doesn't my password work?
Make sure your caps lock key is set correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive, which means capitalization counts; "password," "PASSWORD," and "PasSwOrD" are not equivalent. Be sure you're entering your password exactly as when you registered or as shown in your Welcome e-mail.
Be sure also that you're using your e-mail address to log in.

Signing Up
How do I register?
To sign up for personalized services and access to our news archives, simply fill out the registration form at the bottom of the login page any time you're asked to log in.
Once you fill out and submit the form, an e-mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address with further instructions for the activation of your account. Once your e-mail address is confirmed, use your e-mail address and password to log in to our site.
Why do I have to provide all of this information?
Accurate information is important to protect the security of your account, to provide customized services, and to help our staff troubleshoot any problems you may have. Your information will become increasingly important as we expand the services we offer online to registered users and print subscribers.
In particular, we cannot reset your password unless we have an accurate e-mail address for your account.
Why do I need a username if I have to login with my e-mail address?
Your username is a short, unique identifier that helps distinguish you among our registered users without displaying your e-mail address on any public part of the site. Though we would generally use your full name in such cases, we want to be sure nobody can masquerade as any of our other users by registering a similar first and last name. The username therefore helps provide another form of unique identification.

Confirming an e-mail address
Why do I need to confirm my e-mail address?
A working, valid e-mail address is required so that we can send you important information about your account, including a temporary password in case you forget.
Note that we do not sell your e-mail address to third parties, nor do we "harvest" e-mail addresses for junk mail distribution.
I never got an e-mail confirmation message. Why?
Some e-mail services provide tools for filtering out junk mail. Because the confirmation e-mail we send is automated, some junk mail filters may catch our messages inadvertently.
If you have junk mail protection turned on, you may need to check your junk messages folder for our confirmation e-mails. They may have been routed to a "Junk" or "Spam" folder. They may also have been routed directly to your "Trash" or "Deleted items" folder, so you might check there as well.
In some cases, you can "whitelist" our e-mails by adding the address "webforms@sninews.com" to your address book. With many filters, this will allow all messages from this address to bypass the filter and appear in your inbox.
If you need to have your confirmation message re-sent, fill in your e-mail address on the following form:

Server Errors
What is an "Internal error" when I try to confirm my e-mail address?
- This message sometimes appears when our servers are under heavy load. In most cases, waiting a moment and trying again will allow you to proceed.
- Your e-mail client or web-based e-mail service may be formatting the confirmation link in such a way that the important encrypted data in the URL is corrupted. If your confirmation link doesn't fit on one line, you may need to copy and paste the complete URL into your browser's location bar.
Why do I get the message, "Sorry, the requested page could not be found"?
- This message will occasionally appear if our server is under a heavy load. In most cases, waiting a moment and trying again will allow you to proceed.
- You may be trying to access a portion of our site which has been moved. Visit our front page at http://waltontribune.com to find the content you're looking for.
- If you continually receive this error message, the portion of the site you're attempting to use may require the attention of our staff. Send us a brief description of what you were trying to do and what was happening, along with the URL you're attempting to browse.
