UPDATE: Social Circle body identified

Published December 9, 2009

UPDATE: The body has been identified as Robert "Drew" Nichols, 38, a Covington resident and father of two.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office investigators are suspecting foul play after a body was found by a hunter off Clegg Farm Road northwest of Social Circle.

According to Walton County Sheriff’s Office officials, at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a hunter was reportedly walking in the woods when he noticed what appeared to be a partially covered body. He called 911 and WCSO deputies verified it was the body of a middle-age adult male who apparently had been dead for several days.

“Evidence on the scene led us to believe some foul play was involved,” WCSO Chief Deputy Bruce Wright said. “We have been working around the clock since the body was discovered and we are pursuing strong leads at this time.”

The body has been identified but WCSO officials would not release the name at press time pending notification of the next of kin.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday but the results were not available at the time of publication.
