Athlete of the Week

Published November 4, 2009

If an army travels on its stomach, then a football game can make no more progress than its offensive line will allow.

Friday’s George Walton Academy win over Mt. Vernon was a prime example. Though runners like Justin Brown, Cord Gunnin and Eric Dobbs received most of the credit for the team’s amazing 430 yards on the ground, it’s the guys down in the trenches who make things happen.

For their efforts in a crucial game that allowed the Bulldogs to qualify for the state tournament, the entire GWA offensive line will be recognized as our Athletes of the Week.

The group includes junior center Brett Eckles, junior strong guard Nathan Neufeld, junior strong tackle Chris Russo, senior tight end Hunter Findley, junior quick guard Zach Inman and freshman quick tackle Chad Howell.

“They are played exceptionally well,” said GWA head coach Don Williams. “These kids are all hard workers and play well together. You don’t put up the kind of numbers we did Friday unless you’ve got those big kids up front doing their jobs.”
