Cooper marks 113th birthday
Published August 30, 2009
MONROE — The oldest woman in Georgia celebrated her 113th birthday Wednesday.
Besse Cooper, who lived in Between for years, commemorated her birthday at the Walton Regional Medical Center nursing home as friends, loved ones and city officials came to share the occasion. She is the eighth oldest person in the U.S. and the 12th oldest in the world.
Monroe Mayor Greg Thompson declared the day “Besse Cooper Day,” but Cooper herself said she had no real secret to her longevity.
“I mind my own business and I don’t eat junk food,” Cooper said.
