Sarah Rheba Wallace Thornton, longtime resident of 165 Hope Ave., Athens, and more recently of Monroe died Sunday Nov. 15, 2009. She was born in Americus, Ga. on Dec. 10, 1922 to Levi and Bertha Wallace.

Rheba was employed at Rogers Hoisery Mill for over 20 years. She was a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 20.

She is survived by her husband and sweetie of 67 years, Jack D. Thornton; daughter, Stacey Hein (Charlie); grandchildren, Chris Hein (Teresa), Rebecca Haas (Jason), Alicia Hyde (Ben), Mary Hein and Zhay Hein, Great Grands, Ira, Eli Josh, Luke and Levi; sisters, Marjorie Adams, Louise Melton, Juita Dobbs (Troy).

She also helped raise several other children, X. L. Moorehead, Linda Melton Jones, Vickie Moorehead Thompson and Michael Moorehead.

She was preceded in death by a sister Harriet Wallace Hanson (Tommy).

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the Chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Pass and the Rev. Glenn Purvis officiating. Interment was held in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Members of American Legion Post 20 served as Pallbearers.

Bridges Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
