So many animals, so little time

Published October 18, 2009

If our elected leaders in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., were as proactive as the animal lovers of Walton County, none of us would have to worry again.

Once again our pet-cuddling pals have proven their dedication to their cause through a number of initiatives.

William Wise, recently appointed director of Walton County Animal Control, says the animal shelter received donated dog vaccines from Pound Puppies and Kittens Rescue and other items from Monroe Veterinary Clinic. The county also bought some vaccines and dewormer.

“In an effort to make adoptions even more attractive, we will be giving DHLPP vaccines, deworming and the rabies vouchers for all dogs upon adoption,” he said. “For the dogs that don't receive vaccines upon intake, we will vaccinate them on their way out the door when adopted. While I'd love to take huge steps and vax, deworm, spay/neuter and chip everything right away, we need to start slow and see how things work over the next few months. All that is included in the $40 adoption fee has been noted on www.waltonpets.

net.”

That’s good news for potential pets. Kudos goes out to Wise for doing his part to help animals.

Speaking of Wise, he will be speaking at the Walton Animal Guild’s second annual State of the Animals report at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Monroe-Walton County Library.

On another animal-related note, there will be a film screening to benefit Petzone Dog Rescue Inc. of Monroe, Oct. 24 at Retro Cinema, 114 Spring St., Washington, Ga.

The event features the premiere of “An America Opera: The Greatest Pet Rescue Ever” which documents the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Five dollars from every ticket sold is donated to rescue.

For more information visit www.rescuepartytour.com.

Tickets can also be purchased in advance at Petzone on South Broad Street in Monroe or Retro Cinema in Washington.

The movie is not recommended for children under 13.

Support these efforts and help animal friends.
