Police team up to make drug bust

Published February 25, 2009

SOCIAL CIRCLE — Law enforcement officials executed warrants on two homes early Saturday morning that resulted in four arrests in addition to drugs and cash seized.

Just before 5 a.m., Social Circle Department of Public Safety officers were aided by Monroe and Loganville police law enforcement to serve a “no knock” search warrant. Officers kicked the door in on a duplex located at 390 Carver Drive, Social Circle, following a lengthy investigation initiated by complaints from residents in the neighborhood of suspected drug activity.

Arrested at the scene was Riley McGuire, 58, of 105 East Richardson St., Oxford. He was charged with sale of cocaine and possession with the intent to distribute. Also arrested was Bennie Ray Taylor, 58, of 360 Poplar Ave., Social Circle, who was charged with sale of cocaine. Officers also seized $1,500 in cash and more than $300 worth of cocaine.

Hours later, officers executed a search warrant at 464 Ronthor Ave.

Just days after receiving information and conducting an investigation, SCDPS officers executed the search warrant at the residence and arrested Martin Dexter Bell, 40, who was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commissioner of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property. Officers found a handgun at the home that had been reported stolen. A small amount of cash and drugs were also recovered at the scene.

While officers were making the arrest, Gary Lynn Bell, 47, of 240 Marco Estates, Social Circle, arrived on the scene and was arrested for a failure to appear warrant.

“This was a great effort — first by the residents of our community wanting to remove drugs from their streets and by the officers doing a thorough investigation and making the arrests,” SCDPS chief Steve Shelton said. “I would like to thank the Loganville and Monroe police departments for their assistance as we all do our part to fight the drug trade.”
