Friend recalls Epsie Ewing’s kindness
Published June 26, 2009
LOGANVILLE — Many now know her as the victim of a violent home invasion, but to her family and friends, 65-year-old Epsie Ewing was the wife of 50 years to C.F. Ewing, the loving mother of eight children, four boys and four girls, and a dedicated grandmother to her many grandchildren.
Before her death Tuesday as a result of the beating she received during last month’s home invasion in Loganville, Epsie and her husband had even been raising one of their young grandchildren. Friends say her husband is now tackling that role on his own.
Long-time friend Barbara Forrester said she got to know Epsie very well after re-connecting with her in 1993 through a shared love of “junking” or “treasure hunting” as they called it.
“We met many years before when we would both go to a flea market but we both got involved with buying and selling and became very good friends. They had The Treasure House in Loganville — Epsie had it with her husband and sister,” Forrester said. “I believe Epsie was actually born in Grayson but she and C.F. have lived in Loganville for many years — he went to school here. They were just good people. Epsie and C.F. helped me when I had to move my father.”
Forrester said she was shocked and saddened by the way her friend lost her life and she still can’t bring herself to imagine how her friend must have felt during the home invasion and beating last month that resulted in her death.
“I just can’t understand how or why a lady as sweet as Epsie could have been treated this way,” Forrester said.
