Moss is called to The Show
Published August 8, 2007
Loganville High School graduate Brandon Moss has been called to the major leagues by the Boston Red Sox. Moss, an all-star outfielder this season for the Sox’s Class AAA affiliate Pawtucket, joined the parent club in Anaheim Sunday. He was called up to replace Eric Hinske, who returned home to attend to a pregnant wife.
No one knows how long Moss will be in the majors right now, but its almost a certainty he’ll join the Red Sox for the final month of the season when rosters are allowed to expand on Sept. 1. Moss was batting .290 with Pawtucket with 13 home runs and a team-leading 67 RBIs.
Can you just imagine what must have been going through Moss’s mind as he stood in left field in Anaheim Monday night, realizing a life-long dream? Let’s hope the Red Sox, who suddenly find the Yankees breathing down their necks, find a permanent place for the former Red Devil.
I’ve never met Brandon, but I’ve written so much and heard so much about him I feel like we’re old friends. There’s one more story I’d like to pen in the near future... “Moss leads Sox to AL East title.”

The Monroe-based Georgia Crusaders lost their first semi-pro football game of the season Saturday, falling 27-0 to the Asheville Grizzlies. Playing without three offensive starters — including quarterback Vince Moore — and three defensive starters, the Crusaders struggled to move the ball, according to head coach Felix Guthrie.
The Crusaders, who play their home games at the old Monroe Area High School’s Legion Field, fell to 3-1 with the setback and hit the road again Saturday for a game in Savannah.

Monroe’s Charisse Moore will be at defensive end Saturday night when she and the Atlanta Xplosion host the Detroit Demolition for the championship of the International Women’s Football League. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Roswell High School’s stadium. The Xplosion is the only undefeated team in the IWFL.
