Another Storm appears headed for Baton Rouge
Published July 2, 2009
LOGANVILLE — This time it isn’t a hurricane, but Louisiana has attracted the attention of a force designed to change (sports) history in the state.
Loganville High School senior running back Storm Johnson has verbally committed to LSU after being courted by almost three dozen major colleges.
Johnson had reportedly narrowed his final list to the Tigers, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Ohio State before delivering the good news to LSU assistant coach Larry Porter. Verbal commitments are not binding. Johnson won’t be allowed to sign until next February.
“I think he’s a great fit for Les Miles’ program,” said LHS head coach Eric Godfree. “They’ve been looking for a big back and Storm should do well in their offense.”
Johnson transferred to Loganville last spring after rushing for more than 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior at Buford High School. He split time with Air Force signee Cody Getz.
Johnson is a full academic qualifier with a 3.0 grade point average and expects to enroll at LSU in January.
