Loganville Christian drops season finalé
Published November 1, 2009
LOGANVILLE – In its final game of the season, Loganville Christian Academy ran into a offensive buzzsaw and saw its season record drop to 5-3 on a 19-6 loss to Windsor Academy of Macon.
The Knights (2-8, 0-4), who had only scored 14 points the entire season, eclipsed their offensive output by pounding out a ground attack that blanked the Lions until late in the third period.
Windsor drew first blood with 2:44 left in the first quarter on a 16-yard pass play from Caleb Fuller to Bobby Shepherd; the two-point conversion attempt failed.
On the ensuing kick-off, Windsor surprised everyone with an on-side kick, which it recovered at midfield. The first play from scrimmage saw the Knights advance the ball to the LCA 25-yard line. The Knights proceeded to grind the ball the rest of the way and as the first half expired, the Knights punched the ball in from the 1-yard line to take a 12-0 lead.
The majority of the second quarter was a seesaw back and forth with neither team able to gain an advantage on several exchanges of the ball.
The third quarter belonged to the Lions as they tried to claw their way back into the game. A goal-line stand of Homeric proportions kept the Knights from a sure score.
A 35-yard pass play from Matt Kirkland to Clay Mote gave LCA relief from the shadow of its own goal post and just when things were looking their brightest, Windsor’s J.B. Brooks picked off a Kirkland pass and ran it in from 35 yards out. Parker Henderson added the point-after and the Knights took a 19-0 lead.
The play of the game saved LCA from a shutout when Kirkland connected with Clay Mote on a 69-yard pass for the Lions’ only score of the game. Nolan Callaway’s point-after was blocked.
