Judy McGaughey Byerly
Judy McGaughey Byerly, age 66 of Duluth, died on Nov. 11, 2009 at Peachtree Christian Hospice. She was born in Canton on May 22, 1943 to her loving, Christian parents, the late Paul and Grace McGaughey.
Her father was a school teacher, and her mother was a homemaker. In her early years, her family moved to Monroe to farm and to raise cows and chickens. Her husband used to tease her about wearing Purina chicken feed sacks. Paul and Grace scraped up enough money to send Judy to Tift College. She finished at UGA with a Social Degree. Judy worked as a caseworker for Walton County and then went to Fulton County to work with the Dept. of Family and Children’s Services in Atlanta. She retired as a supervisor in 2001. She was married to her husband for 38 years.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Thomas Byerly of Duluth; sister, Mary Carnes of Monroe; and brother, Charles McGaughey of Monroe.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home.
Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
