Art guild offers diverse trio of displays
Published October 14, 2009
From buildings to flowers, old cars and even ghosts, photography is theme of the current exhibits at the Monroe Art Guild.
“I’m glad to have three different photography shows,” said Gallery Coordinator Bryan Hardman. “It is nice to get to showcase people who are well experienced and those who are just starting as students. And then Morgan Lytle’s show is something completely different.”
At the main gallery, the Jack Martin and Friends Show “Art in Photography” features a collection of photographs from 12 artists including Martin, who at the Guild’s recent summer competition finished first and third.
Students from Al Williams’ photography classes have their samples on display in the Guild’s Members’ Gallery. Students have been learning both darkroom and digital photography and their final products — as well as those of their instructor — are included in the exhibit.
Out of the ordinary for the Guild, but certainly fitting for the month of October and Halloween looming, Lytle’s “Ghost on Film” exhibit is on display in the Special Events Gallery. The gallery is described as a documentation of spirits on film by means of paranormal research. The pictures were taken at various places around middle and north Georgia with the hope people view them and not just dismiss them as a hoax.
“While these pictures are in no way absolute proof, they do signify that there are truly unexplainable events occurring around us,” reads an introduction to the display. “I have literally had a lifetime of experiences and would like to share a few.”
The three galleries are on display through the end of October. The Guild is located at 205 S. Broad St., Monroe, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. open Tuesdays through Fridays and admission is free. For more information, call 770-207-8937 or visit them on the Web at www.monroeartguild.org.
In addition to the gallery shows, the Guild will also have its final installment of the Art Talk series beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The guest speaker is local florist Jeff Lott.
