Vernon Christian Church Cemetery. Mr. Mobley was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Ossie Mobley. Frank Queen Frank Queen, age 76 of Monroe, died on Jan. 28, 2010. He was born in Eatonton on Feb. 14, 1933 to the late Arthur Queen and the late DrueWillie Collins Queen. He is survived by his wife, Dean Queen of Monroe; daughter, Lisa Almand of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Robby and Sandra Smith of Monroe; sisters, Hazel Gay of Gainesville, Peggy Hardigree of Watkinsville, Faye Ragan of Monroe, Nancy Couch of Monroe; brother, Billy Queen of Monroe; and grandchildren, Taylor Almand and Trevor Almand, both of Monroe. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 30th at 11 a.m. at Center Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Marion Prather officiating. Interment followed at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mary Hanson Mitchem Mary Hanson Mitchem, age 89 of Monroe, passed away Jan. 28, 2010 Mrs. Mitchem retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Social Circle First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. W.C. Tribble and Dr. Glen Money officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Mrs. Mitchem was preceded in death by her husband, Byron “Buck” Mitchem. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Weaver; grandchildren, Randy Mitchem Weaver and Lisa Weaver Treadwell; great-grandchildren, Lauren Brewer, Dylan Treadwell and Sarah Weaver, all of Monroe; nieces and nephews; special caretaker: Chantal Mirambeau. David Clinton ”Dave” Gallman
David Clinton ”Dave” Gallman David Clinton ”Dave” Gallman, age 87 of Monroe died on Jan. 29, 2010. He was born in Murray County Georgia on Feb. 27, 1922. He is predeceased by his parents, Dennis James and Mamie Hall Gallman, his wife of 33 years, Maria DeNoronha Gallman, brother and sister in law, Glenn and Nina Gallman of Marietta, sister June Henry of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a veteran of WWII serving as Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps as Gunner/Radio Operator on B25 aircraft, serving in the European Theater. His early business careers included, self employed photographer, Sales positions and Circulation District Manager for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He became a State Farm Insurance Agent in 1960, serving the Monroe and surrounding areas until his retirement in 1987. He was a member and served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent in the First Baptist Church of Monroe. He later became a member of the Bold Springs United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Monroe Rotary Club joining in 1956 and served as President. He is a Charter Member of the Monroe Association of Life Underwriters serving as President, a Charter Member of the Monroe Toastmasters Club, serving as President. He was a fifty year Mason, a member of Generous Warren Lodge #20, F & AM; serving previously as Chaplin, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Yorkrite Mason and a Shriner. He and his wife, Maria were volunteers with the Friendship Force hosting foreign families in their home. They also served with the Georgia Partners of the America?s. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed travelling the world.

Kathryn Willis Kathryn Willis, age 75 of Monroe, died on Jan. 29, 2010. She was born in Camden, NJ on Feb. 21, 1934 to the late Jacob Thomas Myers and the late Sarah Kathryn Rhodes Myers. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mitch Shiver of Covington, Kim and Bob Whitlock of Jacksonville, FL; and grandchildren, Christian Shiver, Collin Shiver, Alyssa Whitlock, and Ashlyn Whitlock. Funeral Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Hartley and Father John Kierny officiating. Jack “Elzie” Tompkins Jack “Elzie” Tompkins, age 69 of Monroe, died on Jan. 25, 2010. He was born in Cairo, GA on July 11, 1940 to the late Artie Tompkins and the late Evie Elridge Tompkins. He was preceded in death by his sister, the late Juanita VanAllen; and his brothers, the late Reacie Tompkins and the late Tommy Tompkins. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Tompkins of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law, Vanessa and Terry Harris of Moultrie, Ruth and Kenny Rigby of Jacksonville, FL, Deidrea and Richard Truitt of Thomasville; son and daughter-in-law, Arnie and Sandra Asbell of Monroe; sisters, Nadine Russell of Moultrie, Mary Dunn of El Paso, TX, Barbara Spradley of Moultrie; brothers, Gene Tompkins of Moultrie, Marion Tompkins of Valdosta, Herchel Tompkins of Albany; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, Ja. 27th at 11 a.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Moon and Fernandas Robinson officiating. Barry Scott and Second Wind Interment was on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Meigs. A special thank you to Barry Scott and Second Wind and the staff of Restore Health.

Rebecca “Beck” Hawk Rebecca “Beck” Hawk, age 89 of Monroe, passed away Jan. 25, 2010. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church with remains placed in state at 1:30 PM. the Rev. David Laycock and the Rev. Bonnie Peters officiated, and interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hawk was a life-long member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church where she served on many church committees. She was also Past President of the UMW, a former choir member and Sunday School teacher, and she was a member of the Monroe Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Hawk who died in 1991. She is survived by her sister, Minnelle Hawk Adcock and sister-in-law, Alice Aycock, both of Monroe; nieces, Patricia Harrington of Hampton; Mrs. Harry (Janet) McGaughey, Mrs. Billy (Gail) Allen, Mrs. Ted (Rita) Peters, all of Monroe; nephew, Tommy and Helen Adcock of Monroe; several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Wagner Elizabeth Wagner, 85, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, in Loganville. Elizabeth was born on May 15, 1924 in Yugoslavia to Anton and Elizabeth Richter. She was a member of the Eastside Senior Bowling League, Snellville Seniors, Eastside Senior Friends, Loganville Seniors and Snellville Keenagers. Survivors include her husband, Frank Wagner of Loganville, daughters, Lisa Pertschy of Monroe and Christine Metscher of New York City, son, Frank Wagner, Jr. of Grayson, sisters, Marie Anders, Anna Feldi, Leni Okorn and Christine Sommerkorn, brother, Joseph Richter, nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Lynn H. Howerton
Lynn H. Howerton Lynn H. Howerton, age 61, died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 following a brief illness. Born of Lynn Howerton and Joyce McKay Howerton, in Minneapolis, MN, Lynn, his mother and his sister moved to the Atlanta area in the early 50s. After service in the Air Force, Lynn became a renowned hair and makeup artist in the Washington, D.C. area and then in Atlanta. Later, Lynn also had an extremely successful and noted career as a window designer at J.P. Allen, in downtown Atlanta, where he worked for many years. In later years, Lynn settled in the Oxford, GA and worked as a packaging material designer. Lynn lived in the Oxford area until his death. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances Ruby Poss of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-law, David H., II and Paula Poss of Martinez, Steven D. and Bette Poss of Newnan; daughter-in-law, Sue H. Poss of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Benjamin Poss and Angela of Asheville NC, Daniel Poss of Augusta, Laura Poss of Thomasville, Kathryn Poss and David M. Poss of Newnan; great grandchildren, Wiley and Ashley Poss of Ashville, NC. He was preceded in death by his son, the late Robert C. Poss of Greenville, SC. Retired after 27 years in the U.S. Army, Mr. Poss later retired from Amoco Chemicals., Monroe GA. He was an active member of the Monroe First Christian Church.
