Linda T. Daniel, age 62 of Monroe, died on Oct. 27, 2009. She was born in Pickens County on March 9, 1947 to the late Homer Tillery and the late Ruby Young Tillery. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late William “Buddy” Daniel.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Tillery of Monroe; sons, Roy Daniel of Monroe, Chris Tillery of Monroe; and sisters, Patricia Ann Ruark of Monroe, Betty Bunch of Claimont, Joyce Thompson of Conyers.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Arrington officiating. Interment followed at Bostwick Cemetery.

Mr. Robert E. “Bob” O’Connor
Mr. Robert E. “Bob” O’Connor, age 76 of Calhoun died Sunday, Nov. 1 in Gordon Health Care following several weeks of illness.
Bob was born, Nov. 5, 1932 in Chicago, son of the late Edward B. O’Connor and Irene McGrath O’Connor. He was a retired public school teacher, coach, and principal. Much of his career was in the City of Calhoun School System. Later, Bob lived in Monroe for 22 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War era with service both in Korea and Germany. He was a member of the Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy Wood O’Connor; one son, Michael O’Connor of Atlanta; one daughter, Shelly Medders and her husband Brett of Calhoun; one sister, Geri Bembre of Punta Gorda, Florida; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Father Louis Tonsmeier officiating.

James Michael Adcock, 54 of Monroe, passed away on Oct. 16, 2009.
His funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 20 at Union Chapel United Methodist Church.
“Mike” as most peopel knew him was a huge part of the community and a friend to many. He was the best friend and love of his life, the most devoted son and brother, the happiest most fun loving Papa , and the best Daddy a daughter could ask for. After 30 years of owning his business, Mike changed careers and became a deputy for the Walton County Sheriff’s Department. He was dedicated to his new career and was in training at the law enforcement academy at the time of h is death. He was an outdorrs man who loved to hunt and fish. He also loved the sport of baseball and could talk for hours about the Braves. He adored his grandchildren and helped to coach his grandson’s little league baseball team. Those little guys loved “Coach Mike”. He was truly a great man and he will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him

Jerry Tillman, age 82 of Monroe, passed away Oct. 21, 2009.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Acuff officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Paul Bryant, Don Moon, Harold Palmer, Lamar Palmer, John D. Tillman, Sr., Rodney Whitaker, Billy Ray Williams and John Richard Wilson. Mr. Tillman was a member of Mt. Vernon Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette L. Tillman; son, Jerome B. (Ronnie) Tillman, Jr. of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Chuck Steele of Monroe; brother, Thomas B. (Dick) Tillman, Jr. of Sumter, S.C.; grandchildren, Hannah and Lawson Steele.

Joseph “Joe” C. Long
Joseph “Joe” C. Long, 93, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at home.
Born in Dooly County, GA, he was the son of the late Jeff Davis and Lassie McElroy Long.
He owned Long Trailer and Body Service since 1948. For 45 years, he was a faithful member of Sanctuary Church, formerly Fair Heights Baptist, serving as deacon, elder, choir member, usher and on various committees.
Gideon and staunch Republican, Joe supported numerous ministries and organizations throughout his life. His love of God, family and country was evident to all.
He is survived by a sister, Eleanor L. Queen; and aunt, Hazel M. Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Crystal G. Long; a sister, Hilda L. Smith; and brothers, Harold, Carson and Alton Long.

Lollie Belle Chambers, age 81 of Monroe, died on Oct. 19, 2009. She was born in Banks County on Sept. 25, 1928 to the late Ruth Beck Smith and the late Paul Smith. She was preceded in death by her sons, the late James Chambers, and the late Johnny Chambers; her daughter, the late Linda Johnston; and her grandson, the late Craig Link.
She is survived by her husband, G.W. Chambers; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Pauline Chambers of Monroe, Jerry and Delores Chambers of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law, Mozelle Link of Monroe, Patricia and Jimmy Perry of Monroe, Brenda Chambers of Monroe, Connie and Jimmy Malcom of Social Circle, Deborah and Greg Roberts of Monroe, Kathy Chambers of Monroe; sisters, Mildred Fleeman of Nicholson, Sarah Hill of Winterville; brother, Wallace Smith of Gastonia, NC; 25 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.

Hilda Needham Byrd, age 53 of Walnut Grove passed away, Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. Funeral Services were held 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Corinth Christian Church in Loganville with remains placed in state at 2:30 PM with Minister Don Hardison and Minister Lester Waters officiating. Burial in Corinth Memorial Gardens, Loganville. A member of Corinth Christian Church in Loganville, Mrs. Byrd was a 1974 Graduate of Loganville High School and a 1978 Graduate of Georgia College at Milledgeville with a Bachelor of Geriatric Care. She worked for Social Circle Nursing Home, Argiability through UGA, and Whiproorwill Organic Farms in Walton Grove. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her parents, Sanders and Louise Head Needham and is survived by her husband of 23 years, Andy Byrd, Walnut Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lewis and June Needham, Loganville; Jerry and Dorothy Needham, Monroe; Mack Needham, Larry and Bettie Needham, all of Covington; Phil and Joanne Needham, Eddie and Patsy Needham, Don and Teresa Needham, all of Loganville; sister: Sandra Needham, Oxford; Special Friend: Jamie Jo Gomez, McDonough; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ruth Perry Smith, age 87 of Monroe, passed away Oct. 17, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Monday, Oct. 19, at the Monroe Church of God with the Revs. Wayne Durden, Ronald Wilson and Joey Grizzle officiating. Interment followed in Hill Haven Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Monroe Church of God where she was part of the Cornerstone group. She was a very happy resident at Great Oaks of Monroe. She loved helping others and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Smith was married to Harry Perry until his death in 1987. She later married James Monroe Smith who passed away in 2008. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lester Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Pat Perry, all of Monroe; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; special friend Harold Bone.

Norma Jean Malcom, age 74 of Monroe, passed away Oct. 12, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Malcom and Dr. Todd Ware officiating. Interment followed in Malcom Cemetery. Mrs. Malcom was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert F. Malcom, Sr. and her sister, Donnie Sue House. Richard “Dick” Rupert
Richard “Dick” Rupert, 68, died Oct. 10, 2009. Mr. Rupert retired from AT&T, and moved to Winder from Between, Georgia in 1995 to be closer to his grandchildren.
Mr. Rupert was a member of the NRA, Cherokee Gun Club, The Sons of Confederate Veterans and the First United Methodist Church of Winder. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved shooting, hunting, studying history and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Janie; four sons, Rick, Mike, Chad and Greg; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas and John; as well as three sisters, Ladora Rupert, Mary Varnum and Sarah Brennan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Winder with Pastor Terry Tippens officiating. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Donald Lee Schussler of Loganville, died on Oct.1, 2009 at Embracing Hospice Care in Snellville.
Born on Feb. 9, 1926 in Washington, PA to Harry and Laura Schussler, he served in the army during WWII and married Wanda Mae Littell in 1946. Together, they raised two children, James and Karen.
Don worked for Crucible Steel in Midland, PA for many years before relocating to Haines City, FL in 1984. While there, he held several positions, including school bus driver and the Service Manager for Montgomery Air.

Cherry Sue Shumpert, age 64 of Monroe, passed away Sept. 24, 2009.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Tyre and Minister of Music William Clayton officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Christian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Shumpert loved spending time with her grandson, Wesley, who lovingly referred to her as “Mumzi”. She loved cats and watching Nascar. She also loved watching the poker channel and was a big Elvis fan and collector.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rosa Mae Coker; daughter, Susan Shumpert and brother, David Coker.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Randy Brownlee of Monroe; sister, Gail Peters of Monroe; grandchildren, Wesley Brownlee, Jonathan Browlee; great-grandchild, Haley Brownlee.

Majol “Beck” Swords Jones, age 84 of Loganville passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009.

A member of Bay Creek Baptist Church in Loganville, Mrs. Jones was a retired Cafeteria Worker with Loganville High School.

Dianne Durden, age 61 of Monroe, died on Sept. 20, 2009. She was born in Walton County on Nov. 15, 1947 to Elizabeth Sykes Coleman and the late David Horace Coleman.

Jackie Worth, age 71 of Monroe, died on Sept. 21, 2009. She was born in Walton County on May 13, 1938 to the late Jack Allen and the late Jewell Hood Allen Bridges. She was preceded in death by her sister, the late Brenda Farris and her step-father, the late Ed Bridges. She was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church and retired from Local Finance of Athens after 28 years as a manager.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Lowell “Whitey” D. Worth of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Lord of Athens, Tracey and Randall Wheeler of Monroe, Kitty and Al Yarbrough of Monroe, Cindy and Toney Johnson of Monroe, Debbie and Mickey Shaw of Snellville, Vicki Farris of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Janet Bowden of Loganville; grandchildren, Shayne Bowden, Shannon Butler, Kristi Keesee, Nic Johnson, Zac Johnson, Eric Kent, Katelyn Farid, Olivia Wheeler, Wes Wheeler, Matt Boyd, Christian Boyd; seven great grandchildren; and nephew, Stephen Farris of Watkinsville.

Lucy Hearn Wayne died Sept. 23, 2009. She was born in Eatonton, GA May 7, 1913, the daughter of Howell Reid and Elizabeth Candler Hearn. She attended Georgia State College for Women where she was president of her Freshman Class. She also attended Furman University. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Mell Wayne, Jr. of Monroe, GA. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Monroe and was active in the Sunday School and Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a member of Monroe Junior Service League and served as its President in 1950. She was a charter member of the Monroe Golf & Country Club, a member of the Fernandina Beach Gold Club where she won the Ladies Golf Tournament of 1978. She hit a hole-in-one on May 25, 1975. After the death of her husband, she moved to Athens, Ga. She resided at Drayton Square for 24 years and for the last several years she lived at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living where she participated in many activities. She was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.

Grady “Mack” McCullers, age 72 of Lithonia passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Moore officiating. Burial Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Loganville.
Mr. McCullers was born and raised in the Sharon Community and a graduate of Monroe High School, employed by General Motors BOP Plant, Doraville and retired from Ironworkers Local #378 after 30 years of service in 1991. He was a member of the Lithonia Masonic Lodge #84 F & AM, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, YAARAB Shrine of Atlanta and a Charter member of Loganville Shrine Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents Euell Grady McCullers and Florence Witcher McCullers.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Ann and Baxter Masters, Franklin, TN; nephews: Keith Brooks and Darin Masters, four great nephews and Longtime loving companion: Deana “Dee” Durham, Decatur, GA.

Mrs. Julia Cook Brackett
Mrs. Julia Cook Brackett of Athens, died on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
She was preceded in death by Ernest Marshall Brackett, her husband of 58 years.
Born in Walton County on July 9, 1908, she was the daughter of Benjamin Oscar and Gladys Lavinia Durden Cook. In 1923 Julia accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was a member of Athens First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Brackett attended the University of Georgia, earning a B.A. and M.A. From 1929-1935 she was a school teacher at Athens High School, Pannell School in Walton County and David C. Barrow Elementary School in Athens. She devoted the next two decades to her family and then continued her teaching career in seven elementary schools in Clarke County.
She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, the Athens Ladies Garden Club, Elijah Clarke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Grandmother’s Club, the Thomas Miller Chapter of the Colonial
